September 16th, 2008A bunch of blogs picked up the site today.
Very cool and very humbling.

The Denver Egotist had some entertaining things to say:
We’re not sure how this guy qualifies as an “amateur designer.” Either someone’s pulling our leg or he has some serious self-esteem issues. In fact, the whole thing seems a bit fishy, but it’s definitely worth checking out regardless. The blog, which chronicles his day-to-day and keeps track of images that catch his eye, is fairly entertaining as well.
In other news, ran across some nice typography today:

September 15th, 2008Boss walked behind me in the middle of a post.
Need to make sure that doesn’t happen too often.

September 14th, 2008Cataloging some images of mountains and got sidetracked by this gem.
Did you ever see that movie ALIVE? The one about the rugby team that crashed in the Andes. This is an actual photo of the view from their crash site:

So I cross referenced and apparently there’s a bunch of shots from the incident in our database:

This is the guy that was played by Ethan Hawke :

And here are a couple awesome Rugby shots for good measure:

Mad Men
September 12th, 2008So everyone loves Mad Men, myself included for the most part (you have to admit it gets a bit droll at times). That doesn’t seem to change the fact that this place has some really really horrible promo shots for the show. What happened here? The lighting is bad, the costume is bad, the setting is boring, the talent looks hungover. I’m assuming these were done before the show was such a hit. Either way, mildly embarrassing.

To make up for it, I offer you these amazing shots that you get when querying “mad men” from the database:

(From the Yorkshire Coal Strikes of ‘84)

(McEnroe telling it like it is)

(This one only came up because of Ah”mad”inejad, but it seemed too appropriate to pass up)

Model of Coelacanths
Original caption: 12/30/1952-New York, NY: Courtesy of the American Museum of Natural History, Is a model of a Coelacanth, a fish believed to heve become extinct 75,000,000 years ago but didn’t. A specimen has been found in the Comoro Islands and brought to Durban, South Africa, by Professor J. L. B. Smith. Rhodes University Ichthyologist. Who calls the find “one of the most amazing discoveries ever made i science”. The model shown here ws made from the skin of one caught in 1938. The fish is believed to be the closest relative to a group of fishes that gave rise to land-living vertibrates.
